Dyno testing on many different naturally aspirated 5.0 Mustangs with 19lb injectors and various levels of modifications has shown a typical power gain of 13-14 rear wheel horsepower and 17 ft/lbs of torque over the stock air meter assembly with the same K&N air filter. C&L TrueFlow inlet pipes offer three key features which have made them a very popular bolt-on. The cast aluminum finish with blue silicone hoses really dress up the engine compartment and is much more attractive than the factory black rubber assembly. Due to the fact that these pipes are cast, the inside diameter is consistent all the way through the pipe from the air meter to the throttle body.
By eliminating the flexible ridges in the factory rubber inlet tubes and by controlling the inside diameter for consistency, a modest horsepower gain is achieved. Most typical vehicles will receive approximately 3 rear wheel horsepower from the inlet pipe alone , but several tests have been reported to show as much as 5 horsepower on some applications. For those who are interested in running nitrous oxide, we have cast a special nitrous boss into each C&L inlet pipe to give you a solid location to drill and tap your nozzle into. Due to the fact that these pipes are solid aluminum and are mounted directly to the engine, we do not recommend mounting the mass air flow unit (through a bracket) to the body of the vehicle.
When using an aftermarket intake that relocates the throttle body away from the stock position, it may be necessary to make minor modifications for proper fit. When used in conjunction with our C&L 76mm Mass Air meter housing, a constant 76mm (2.992) I. Is maintained through the entire inlet tract. This is about as large as you can get for a typical bolt-on 5.0 inlet tract. And unlike the cheap, chrome plated steel pipes the competition offers, these aluminum inlet pipes will dissipate heat much better and help keep intake air temps lower.
This helps prevent the computer from pulling timing, so you can maintain the full power potential of the engine. The MAF housing that comes with this system does not have a sensor. You use the stock 89-93 Ford MAF sensor electronics, installed in the C&L 76mm housing.When purchasing this Intake System, the outlet side of the MAF housing is not machined down, like in the picture of the MAF alone. It remains as cast, so you do not need to use any reducing adapter between the MAF and the TrueFlow Inlet Pipe.
The MAF housing is calibrated for use with 24 lb/hr. Injectors and a stock airbox or cold air kit in 89-93 Mustang LX/GT 5.0 engines.T o recalibrate the MAF for larger injectors, you can change the sample tube.
