Vintage Negretti & Zambra London, Wind / Air Speed Flow Meter, Vane Anemometer

Negretti & Zambra - London, speed Air Meter, in hardwood original case. Dated around 1940 - 50s. This is an upright version of a speed air meter. The dial reads'Air Meter to 100,000 Feet, Negretti & Zambra, London, No 5867 and incorporates 3 subsidary dials measuring 100's 1000's and 10,000's, with a large sweep hand which is graduated from 0 - 100.

All dials register as they should, and reset fully, the aluminium vanes are undamaged and spin very easily to give a reading from even a gentle breeze. This is a fine example from a much respected maker, in full working order and in good condition for age, with some wear, marks and scratches. Negretti and Zambra active 1850 c. 1999 was a company that produced scientific (philosophical) and optical instruments and also operated a photographic studio based in London, England.

Henry Negretti (18181879) and Joseph Zambra (18221897) formed a partnership in 1850, thereby founding the firm which would eventually be appointed opticians and scientific instrument makers to Her Majesty Queen Victoria, Prince Albert and King Edward VII, the Royal Observatory and the British Admiralty.
